No Man's land has the silhouette of slim chimneys tapering into the sky, her eyes are as intence as the black windows staring at us, her surface is chipped and cracked skin, her hair is rusty and hazed, her soul is as dark as the dust dancing at our passage.
Yet she is so sexy, charming and mysterious. Wrapped into ghost silence slums, abandoned factories, derelict buildings and barren lands, she traps us into another dimension, away from traditional sense of time.
She welcomes us into wounded and forgotten lands, full of history and stories to be told, making us wondering on what 's happened in those places. Like a step back in a Time that once was so glorious and productive, with the noise of gears and machinery in operation. Now you can feel just a far away feedback, but still containing a mysterious force within itself, like a muffled voice that wants to be heard.
According to the manifesto of modern society, what is now useless, ugly, dilapidated must be sacrificed to the new, at all costs, what is private must be locked and for what concerns abandoned place the access is forbidden.
The explorer perfectly knows that he has to break down these limitations, to rediscover and reclaim the sites, to venture into their belly leaving untouched and unspoiled their soul: taking only photographs and leaving nothing but footprints. Beeing there, yet walking invisible.
After his passage remains only the dust between shadowplays, the fading haze of a chimney, the rust dripping from the walls, the history that is forgotten, the city that is transformed.

The diary of a journey through the city and its people, a reportage of urban life in the new millennium, among suburbs and abandoned factories, trough the dirty and proud faces of the characters, at the crossroads of buildings where lives intertwine and stories pass down.
A whispered story by means of transparent, ephemeral images as memories, backlit figures dancing, silent silhouettes of buildings.
Even as strong as a Molotov cocktail exploding like a story without censorship, or a lifestyle without a filter.
A journey into underground life, with its strong black and whites and accentuated contrast. But always with a touch of romance.
The young Italian photographer, born in Lecco in 1985, after graduating at NABA New Academy of Beauty Art in Milan, moved to Berlin where she lives and collaborates with various artists and with the artgallery XLAB Corrosive Art Farm.

We are proud to announce that two italian artists coming from XLAB-1st Year experience- have been selected to make a live painting during Stroke Fair!: Seacreative and Senso.
If you hadn't been so lucky to meet them last year at XLAB, while painting our facade wall, you will meet them next October at Stroke.

Thursday 06.10 and friday 07.10 XLAB will be also open to visitors and will offer you a live painting of a young but very skilled artist: Eugenia Monti aka DARKAM. If you hang around Kreuzberg, come to have a look!!

In my dreams I found a little of the beauty I had vainly sought in life, and wandered through old gardens and enchanted woods. ... (1)

Cognitive Elapse essentially means a loss of memory, but also implies disregarding consciousness or entering a dreamlike state of mind.
Dreamrealm has always been fashinating the greatest artist of all times, involving every form of visual art and literacture: from Goya to Redon, from Shakespeare to William Blake, from H.R. Giger to Dave Mc Kean, from Freud's theories to Borges' dreams.
This 'Twilight Art" describes the focal passage in which light decreases, giving way to darkness and to the wildest imagination, inhabited by obscure creatures whose shapes blend with the surrounding deep black, revealing just details, often laden with strong symbolism.
Dream as darkness, since the fairy mythology of childhood, as The Sandman's tales sprinkling sandgrains into the eyes of children who don't want to go to sleep.Darkness reveales what daylight hides, leaving space to our deepest fear but also to our most sensitive imagination.
Night time slows down with the breath, the space expands and takes our mind to wander away, through imaginary realms where boundaries blur to horizon and a fine mist envelops our eyes.

It is the immensity, I believe. The hugeness of things below. The darkness of dreams. (2)

Those places reached by our imagination are often too interior and subjective to be described only with words, that's when images come into play, giving birth to overlapping space-time, nuances, drowsiness, and deep black backgrounds that evoke nightmares and creatures living in this
parallel and obscure world, an underworld realm that reminds us Oberon's sagas, Odin's power, the mists of Avalon

Things need not have happened to be true. Tales and dreams are the shadow-truths that will endure when mere facts are dust and ashes, and forgot. ...(3)

Erik Kirton makes us travelling through a dark dream, presenting his solo show in this two series of works: Vintage Photography and Mixed Media.
The first set collects analogic photographs, sepia-toned and black -and-white prints manipulated in the darkroom, often acting directly on the negative-film with scratches or burns, ad memoriam of the passing of time and the vulnerability of materials: spectral buildings, winding statues with expressions full of pathos, a tombstone where white roses lie, to whose images i might istinctly associate as a soundtrack Love Will Tear Us Apart and all the deep concerns of Jan Curtis.
Kirton's photographic background comes from several years spent in the darkroom, experimenting and daring new techniques, and even now that the digital processing has substituted the primitive printing technology, radically changing the way we see and conceive photography, Eric Kirton brings us back to the past with an nostalgic eye on daguerreotypes and cyanotypes, arguing the importance of outdated methods of the past coexisting with modern technologies, in order to fill the artwork with deep human sense, thus allowing us to break free from the boundaries of today’s omnipresent modernization.

Restricting oneself to a single, redundant technique is the gravest mistake any artist could make. Too often, we are assaulted with imagery that is so generic, it is practically impossible to recognize the human aspect, within. Algorithmic calculations have replaced creativity, and the sub-culture has been commercialized to the point that it has become a mere caricature of its former self. What was once cutting-edge has been mass produced and sold on every television station around the globe. (4)

In series 'Mixed Media' serie, Kirton presents instead digitally manipulated works, collages of photographs, paintings and 3d sculptures, art made of sinuous biomechanical creatures with long antennas and tentacles that mate and fuse with human faces and skulls while a postmodern Icarus near a black sun raises his arms to heaven, in an attempt to redemption.

what power would hell have if those here imprisoned were not able to dream of heaven? (5)

Time in this Nightmare-realm is endlessly marked by an old clock fixed on the 8, the symbol of the portal to the Infinite, like a Moebius strip, the Ethernal succession between dream and waking, until the merge of these into an eternal season of mists, typical of dreams.

BIOGRAPHY

Erik Kirton was born in Florida, then in the 80's he moved to Europe and he is currently living in Würzburg, Germany.
Since 1989, he has been exhibiting in the United States and throughout Europe.
His last exhibition took place in Poznam (Poland) in september 2010.
Upcoming shows, in 2011, will include video and music collaborations with Maya (a video artist, based in Aix-en_Provence,
France), and will be performed live in Nice, Paris, Berlin, and Leipzig.

Spazio, like an image DJ, combines and joins visual samplings. The iconography is borrowed from fanzines of the 1970s and 1980s, from punk graphics and the album covers of those years, from documents of the underground scene and artistic-musical performances, from photos taken from publications, magazines, and daily newspapers. The mind immediately races to the silk screens of Andy Warhol and Pop Art, but it is only a superficial evocation because Spazio goes well beyond, making his own the practice of incursion and theft typical of the punk who uses information and images from the media and propose them with an ironic and desecrating, cynical and subversive intention.

Disegni Matti fanzine new release

ElTilf is an italian artist, his school was the street, abandoned buildings,scraped walls, forgotten factories.
He paints over every kind of support and material, creating a perfect combination and harmony with the contest.
His intent is to leave a sign. Something visibile everymorning, on your way to work, a message readable by everyone.
At first he started drawing letters, then he developed his tecnique creating imaginary puppets, scary figures, dark charachters.
These expressions represent the sensations the city was giving him in that period, less freedom and more intollerance, heavyness, lack of spaces and colours.
From all this background is born MINDELTILF.

Tenia is born in 1983.
His creativity and his skillness don't come from an art school but from the street, where he has always experimented his tecniques.
He is part with TILF of the artistic collective Disegni Matti, presented at XLAB in a fanzine and in some videos made by Tilf.

If i could hypothetically go back in time, I would choose the seventies, if I could choose where to spend my nights the choice would fall on New York City and in particular on the scene of musicians, artists, drug adicted, drag queen who used to met in Max's Kansas City at 213 Park Avenue South.Andy Warhol and his glittering and decadent court of miracles has made of this place the center of the New York underground life of that time. The stage of this american version of Cabaret Voltaire gave birth to great music realities like Debby Harry's Blondie and the Velvet Underground, and Paul Zone with his camera, member with his two older brothers of the band named the Fast, consacrated to immortality these seminal figures in the history of rock .
At the time he was studying photography at the high school and always used to bring with him his reflex, to capture emaciated faces and beautiful people close to him and concerts of bands that become essential figures for fans of rock and experimental music.
Attending, since the tender age of 11 years, cinema and music underground scene, filled with transvestites and drug dealers, Paul formed his character and his personality, for better or worse, conscious that he had a rare privilege. His shots reveales faces, uses and consumptions of most of the scenes' creative, crazy and cool aspects,among the subcultures.
He capture the period when the glitter and platform shoes left room for leather jackets and pins by mercy. The sparkle of glam scene started to get dirty in a rage and raw attitude of punk. From the New York Dolls to the Ramones. From the Stooges to Debbie Harry.

SENSO (Italy) ' Derelict building'

Alessandra Odoni aka Senso is a writer - street artist active since 1996.
She is a member of the TDK group and the Interplay Art Group, and she deals also with video production and post-production.
In 1996 she painted for the first time with spray.
She prefers to create her own concepts, instead of the purely representation of lettering.
She draws and usually concretizes ideas and logos on the walls or other surfaces mixing spray and acrylic.
Her hihest form of poetry is to do street-art, poster art, writing, and the road remains her main artistic workshop.
The base of its style is a spiral purrs to figurative elements, visceral, surreal but alive forms, free and without skin, from which bud urban and alien microorganisms.
Her pictures represent vertical vivisections of elements that intersect among them, obsessive and repetitive as labyrinths, in a renewed and contemporary symbolism.

Paola Verde is born in Milano in the same year when punk was born,
She graduated in Arkitekture at Politecnico in Milano, then she attended Italian Institute of Photography. and worked as a freelance photographer for galleries and cultural spaces.
The city borders have always been the center of her personal research, from street- art
to abandoned factories, from underground culture to the metamorphosy of the metropoly.
In 2005 she published KAOS book, a d.i.y and no copyright reportage on rave parties in Italy.
As art curator she organized several events and expositions, most of them in cultural places
like 'Stencil Art - new pop in urban culture' with Traffic Gallery (BG), B SIDE CITIES and POLVERE c/o Zerologico, 'Delicatessen' c/o S' agapo', KAOS c/o LA CUEVA no art gallery, CSOA COX18, CALUSCA CITY LIGHT, CENTRE CULTURAL NIU Barcelona ... Emanuele Sturlese aka Discordant was born in Spezia (italy) in 1984.
Attending a Graphic Design course he fell in love with creative writing, contemporary art and subsequently enrolled himself in DAMS School of Arts of Bologna where he found an artistically stimulating environment, he started producing several collages on many different surfaces and supports.
Then he attended the Academy of Beaux Arts of Carrara, where he developed a passion for photography - especially of abandoned places and dehumanized individuals.
He graduated with the highest marks with a thesis about Prof. Bad Trip.
He currently lives in Berlin.
His pictures talk about a surreal toxicity, time-less reality, undiscovered sexuality, obsessions and marveillous human-dolls living in post-atomic forgotten lands.

WELCOMETOMARS and ELMORO will present limited edition screen-printed t.shirts and LITANTRACE will present her jewels, necklaces, bracelets made with recycled gum.

After having organized concerts, set up stages and worked as a sound technician in the underground scene in Milan in the early 90's, he started being interested in electronic music.

ABOUT ANNA BOLENA:
ANTONELLA PINTUS aka ANNA BOLENA was born in SASSARI in 1970
Musician, producer, writer and videomaker has taken part in several music and video international festivals.
Interested about innovations and challenges, she runs the music and video production IDROSCALO DIGITALE, whit interesting releases of industrial and experimental music
She has a degree in psychology and a Master in NLP and Communication and lives in Berlin since 2004.
She made a lot of collaborations with electronic musicians and labels, like Dr Who ( project Noitz), Hecate, SynteLabo, Maurizio Martusciello aka Martux_M in Rome, and wins the multimedial competion IXEM!Live (Palermo) with the work "Fernseht(o)urm".
Since 2006 she releases many documentaries, like "In sospeso". about bodyart performances, "Durch den Klang". "Klimawandel" , "Accoppiamenti "Ragno porta guadagno", "Sunset Boulevard", "Fuck Parade 2008 trittico profano", "Santa Palermo trittico sacro" ,"The trilogy of love" (music/editing).
You can find her writings in Peti Nudi zine (1997-9), Attenzione alla puttana santa cinema's reviews on Spazio Kamino Newsletter(2000/02) , and on 'Free Party' by Francesco @lter8 Macarone Palmieri/Meltemi editoreRoma 2002.
In Berlin she is the organizer of the experimental music events: "Attenzione alla Puttana Santa" that currently tooks part in different locations.

the SEWING MACHINE + AK77 body performance

The sewing machine is a project of body art
performance, born from a member of Freaks'Bloody Tricks: Miss Kiki.
She uses the sewing machine as a continuum of her body, needles and blood represent the violence and the abuses that women have been undergoing during ages in a male chauvinist society.
The weaving act represents the ritual passage through emotional states, pain becomes the most sublime pleasure and open the door through senses.
Every performance is always new and unique, and involves poetry, installations, visuals and music.

Fabrizio Sarti aka Seacreative is born in Varese (IT) in 1977.
Since 1995 he has been experimenting his art on the street,
painting over trains, abandoned factories and walls.
Then he studied graphic design and began creating his own
personal characters painted in white acrylic over canvas
and traditional supports and customizing clothing items in
limited editions.
He took part at many important street art events and
exhibitions, like Sweet Art Street Art at PAC in Milan, Scala
Mercalli in Rome and Infart in Bassano del Grappa.
